Dr. Gavin Bastiampillai

Dr. Gavin Bastiampillai

Dr. Bastiampillai completed his undergraduate studies from University of Toronto at Scarborough with a major in Neuroscience. He earned his doctorate from Pennsylvania College of Optometry now Salus University with advanced training in Pediatrics. He is TPA certified to prescribe and treat ocular diseases in both Canada and USA after passing both National Board exams. His clinical experiences include working at the Veteran Affairs hospital in Batavia, NY and Salem, Virginia, Heritage optical in Detroit, MI and Dr. Gall & Associates in Oakville, ON. He graduated as a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, an honor society for finishing in the top 10 percentile of his class.

As a teenager Gavin was a patient of Dr. Agar at this very location. Upon completing his optometry degree, Dr. Bastiampillai started off as an associate for Dr. Agar for two years.

In his spare time Dr. Bastiampillai likes to travel and play softball, tennis and cricket.

Dr. Nirangive Satchithanantham (Satchi)

Dr. Nirangive Satchithanantham (Satchi)

Dr. Satchi earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Toronto, graduating with High Distinction. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree in Chicago at the Illinois College of Optometry graduating Cum Laude.

His clinical training is extensive and includes rotations through the Brooklyn Veterans Affairs hospital, Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine at the University of Chicago, Illinois Eye Institute, and Southeast Eye Specialists in Tallahassee, Florida. Throughout his training, he learned to treat and manage common ocular conditions including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, and dry eye syndrome.

Dr. Satchi is certified in both the United States and Canada to provide therapeutic pharmaceutical agents to treat and manage ocular disease. He is a member of both the Ontario and Canadian Association of Optometrists. He strongly believes in providing standard of care optometry with an emphasis on patient interaction. Chair time in the exam lane should be a memorable part of every patient’s day. As well, every patient should leave their eye exam having learned something of value.

In his spare time Dr. Satchi enjoys travelling, fitness, and trying foods from all over the globe.

Dr. Thushy Maheswaran

Dr. Thushy Maheswaran completed her undergraduate studies at University of Waterloo in 2006.

Dr. Maheswaran then attended Glasgow University in United Kingdom, where she graduated with honors in 2010 with an Optometry Degree.

Dr. Maheswaran is board certified by the Canadian Examiners in Optometry as well as the College of Optometrists of Ontario. Furthermore, Dr. Maheswaran is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO). She is certified to prescribe Ophthalmic medications for the Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agent (TPA) legislation allowing Optometrists to prescribe Ocular pharmaceuticals in the Province of Ontario.

Dr. Maheswaran's primary areas of interest are the diagnoses and treatment of eye diseases, contact lenses, and cataract. She has been practicing in the GTA since 2014 and enjoys providing complete family eye care to patients of all ages. She speaks English and Tamil.

Dr. Shreya Patel

Dr. Shreya Patel

Dr. Shreya Patel received her Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto with a double major in Human Biology and Psychology. She then went on to study in New York at SUNY College of Optometry where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2017.

Her clinical training included rotations with an emphasis on ocular disease in multiple practice settings (hospital, private, community based) at Perry Point VA Hospital, Pisacano Eye Care, Eye Care Unlimited, and the Vision Institute of Canada. After graduation, Dr. Patel worked with cataract, cornea, retina, and oculoplastic specialists at NY Vision Group in Queens, NY. She is certified to practice in both Canada and the United States.

Dr. Patel has traveled to Jamaica in 2016 for a mission trip to provide comprehensive eye care. She is able to perform eye exams in English, Gujarati, and Hindi and is accepting new patients everyday.

Dr. Lagini Nithiyanantham

Dr. Lagini Nithiyanantham

Dr. Lagini Nithiyanantham is an established and a skilled Optometrist, currently practicing in the Greater Toronto Area. She has completed her Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in biology from University of Waterloo. She then completed her Optometry degree with honours from Aston University in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Dr. Lagini has completed internship rotations at Chesterfield Eye Hospital in the UK and in various private Optometry clinics in Ontario. She has gained experience in the management and treatment of ocular diseases such as diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. She is also trained in the follow-up care for cataract patients and pre- & post- operative refractive surgery patients. Moreover, she is trained in pediatric optometry and binocular vision through her internship at Birmingham Children's Hospital Eye department in the UK. She is board certified to prescribe therapeutic pharmaceutical agents for the treatment of eye diseases.

Dr. Lagini is dedicated to providing the highest quality of vision care and passionate about new treatment modalities available to enhance eye health. She is a member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario and the Ontario Association of Optometrists. She is fluent in both English and Tamil and can perform eye examinations in both languages. Her interests outside the office include travelling, playing the violin and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Roy Agar

Dr. Roy Agar

Dr. Agar graduated from University of Waterloo and has been practicing optometry for over 50 years. He started his career at the optical department of Simpson's department store. In 1968-1972 he opened his own practice at the TD centre downtown, Toronto. He then went on to work in Sudbury, ON for the next 13 years. He established this practice in Scarborough in 1981. Dr. Agar retired after 50 years of service in 2016 and passed the practice on to Dr. Bastiampillai.

Honey Agar

Honey Agar

Honey has worked and managed the practice with Dr. Agar for the past 32 years. She was the founder of Lupus Ontario, Lupus Canada and the Lupus research databank program. She has also served on the Board of directors for the Arthritis Society and the Arthritis Research Centre. Dr. & Mrs. Agar were happily married for 50 years. Sadly Mrs. Agar passed away in 2023.
